Monitis’ WebLoadTester is an on-demand website load and stress testing service. It allows unlimited virtual usage generation for websites; SOAP/SOA based architectures, and databases. Now website owners and webmasters can easily plan tests in advance, save lots of time, and ensure website availability during high traffic hours. Until now, users were able to do only instant testing.

The new feature will allow them to schedule future testing in three different ways:

One-time scheduling allows the users to schedule a single test on the chosen date and time. It can be used to schedule a test at night, during low traffic hours.

Periodic scheduling lets the users test URLs recurrently according to the period the user selects. The period can be every second or third week, every night, the first/last day of the week/month/year, and so on. Users may schedule a cautionary load test, say every Sunday, to ensure new releases do not compromise website load handling capacities.

Periodic Cron scheduling is for users that prefer to use Cron Expressions to set times and dates for scheduled load tests.

With the addition of a bottom toolbar (similar to that found in Facebook and MySpace), the dashboard has been made even easier for IT administrators and web business managers to use efficiently. For example, users can now change the view date of all the widgets with a single action, chat directly with experts at Monitis, and review the most up-to-date Monitis news and support information.

Monitis now allows the management of all external monitors from a single, central location. This central management system enables customers to edit network settings, monitor timeouts, change monitoring locations, schedule maintenance, and schedule and set up notification rules for all monitors from a single place. Users are also able to export a list of all current monitors with their names, types, and urls, and have the option to print this list or save it as a local file.

IT specialists had often requested a lighter, stripped-down Monitis version of the charts without flash. Flash often gets switched off by admins for security reasons, and IE-based browsers often provide a better overall experience without flash. Responding to those requests, that option is now available.

Many IT managers and sysadmins asked for plain-text e-mail alerts, simply because they use phones and other mobile devices that don’t support full html format. This is now available too. The subject and body of the e-mail alerts have been simplified, the test name appears in the subject line, and there’s more information about the location of the failure.

Monitis provides user-friendly, cost-effective systems monitoring through a software-as-service approach. Monitis’ on-demand cloud monitoring service is now enhanced through Amazon S3 monitoring. This new ability, Monitis S3 Monitoring, lets the customers independently monitor their S3 usage and storage, and notifies customers when they reach prescribed thresholds. Monitis thus provides its customers with greater access and control over the cloud infrastructure.

The Simple Storage Service, or S3, is an online storage service, offered by Amazon’s Web Services division. Amazon S3 uses a simple web interface to provide unlimited data storage. This was the first web service that Amazon offered to the public, first in the United States in March 2006 and then in Europe in November 2007. Amazon has charged users monthly by the gigabyte, with additional charge for each get or put request and for bandwidth used to send and receive stored data. There are an estimated 52 billion objects stored on Amazon S3 as of March 2009. S3 also includes image and web hosting and a back-up for its storage.

Monitis already provides EC2 monitoring, and now adds S3 storage service monitoring as well. This gives Monitis the ability to show its users graphical displays illustrating the number of objects in each virtual folder (known as buckets), their total size, the number of virtual folders, and the number of objects in each bucket etc. Users can set notification rules for each metric that Monitis monitors. They can choose to be notified by Twitter, instant messaging, SMS, and/or email when any threshold is reached.

Monitis is an independent service that can be used by business administrators and IT managers to monitor and exercise control over their Amazon cloud usage. Cloud computing customers do not typically own the physical assets that store their software. Instead, cloud computing customers usually pay for only what they use, and enjoy the cloud resource as a service. Command-line tools will make the job of IT systems administrators automated and productive.

Utilizing the command line is the quickest, simplest, and most efficient way to get a job done.  While many computer users have become dependent on graphics-based programs, the most skilled and accomplished computer users know that the command line (i.e., terminal) is still the best tool for getting the job done.  With a few key tools and computer skills any computer user can take advantage of the benefits of using the command line with the help of Monitis.  Monitis’ Command Line Tools (Monitis CLT) running from the Linux/UNIX or Windows command line allows the user to easily run most Monitis tasks and functions through use of the Monitis API in place of a web interface.

A CLI or command-line interface gives users the ability to interact with a computer’s operating system or software by typing simple commands.  Experienced users, programmers, network and system administrators, and those in scientific fields most often make use of CLI, although those with visual impairments also find the type-based nature of CLI useful.  CLI offers two distinct advantages to users overall:  the ability to script a set of commands to perform tasks or executables and the ability to work faster with fewer commands than a GUI user.

Although Monitis CLT is still in an early version, there are still many services available to users, ranging from a list of monitoring locations, a list of added monitors, performance monitoring results, and top issues in overall tests. They can also build their own workflows using shell scripts. The output can be saved as a plain text file or as comma separated values (CSV). The files can be later opened in Excel or Word for performance or failure root cause analysis. In the future, Monitis will support all the functions available in the web version.

San Jose 14 July, 2009 Monitis Inc., a leading provider of cloud-based enterprise-class systems management software as a service, today announces the release of remote monitoring agent for Solaris platform from Sun Microsystems.

Monitis monitoring agent is a small-footprint, easy to install code that is part of Monitis cloud based, distributed monitoring platform.  The agent runs on clients’ machines, collecting and transmitting information on performance and configuration of the machine, as well as the whole local network, including other servers and devices.  The information gathered is transmitted to the central Monitis server, through corporate firewalls. The new agent is available for installation on both Intel and Sparc versions of Solaris OS from Sun Microsystems, provided as open source.

The central application takes steps to find out and check agent breakdown. By receiving messages on a regular basis form agents, Monitis will be able to decide whether there is a problem. If there is one, corrective measures will be taken. Agents never use local storage, and hence, any information gathered is recorded in a separate central database on the main server. As agents use HTTPS protocol to transfer data, it is not necessary for them to have changes on the firewalls. The whole process- right from the user registration to the establishment of remote monitor- will be completed within a few minutes.

Both Linux and Windows agents are largely used by the Monitis community, which numbers up to 50,000 users.  Recently, FreeBSD support was added, and this, combined with the new Solaris addition, allows users to monitor true distributed and heterogeneous infrastructure.  Monitis combines the robust features of agent-based technology with the simplicity of agent-less technology.  This combination enables effortless systems management for its customers.

San Jose 16 June, 2009 Monitis Inc., a leading provider of affordable, easy-to-use, enterprise class, systems management software, adds MIBs browsing to its free network monitoring service MonitorSNMP, making SNMP monitoring easy for network engineers.

A management information base (MIB) is a type of database used to manage the devices in a communications network. It comprises a collection of objects in a (virtual) database used to manage entities (such as routers and switches) in a network. MonitorSNMP monitors values of these objects and MIBs contain useful information about these objects. There are a large number of MIBs defined by both standards organizations like the IETF, private enterprises and other entities.

The new feature of MonitorSNMP allows browsing of the database by navigating the virtual object tree and finding appropriate objects according to the user’s needs. By using this tree users may instantly add monitoring of the selected object per any network device in their network. Besides standard MIBs the user may upload any MIB file. The current MIBs depository contains a large number of MIBs from well known brands like Cisco/Linksys, Microsoft, HP, Juniper Networks etc.
