About Monitis
San Jose headquartered Monitis Inc. is a leading IT monitoring as a service provider. Currently Monitis and mon.itor.us are performing more that 12,000,000 checks per day for more than 20,000 customers worldwide. It is a fifth venture of Hovhannes Avoyan, a serial entrepreneur and recognized software veteran, and his business associates. Monitis is a spin-off from Lycos Europe/Bertelsmann, a prominent portal which has acquired their previous start-up venture. At Lycos, the Monitis team learned from the inside IT operations’ pain-points and drawbacks of existing solutions. Thus, they conceived Monitis with the belief that small and midsize enterprises have critical needs for radically different, cost-effective and easy-to-use monitoring and systems management tools specifically designed for them.
The team launched first free webiste monitoring service mon.itor.us in March 2006 at the gigantic Cebit trade show in Hannover, Germany. Monitis was launched one year after mon.itor.us – again during the Cebit 2007 show. Although mon.itor.us and Monitis are designed for largely different purposes, target groups and business models, they are complementary services and offer synergies.

The Monitis Team
Hovhannes Avoyan, the CEO and founder of Sourcio and mon.itor.us was a General Manager at Lycos Europe, a public company founded by Telefonica and Bertelsmann. He built and was responsible for the largest development location of Lycos in Armenia, where he led a team of 220 software professionals and staff. Avoyan created his first start-up back in 1996, which was acquired by San Francisco-based Brience in 2000, which in turn was acquired by Lycos in 2002. Avoyan was awarded a Java champion title from Sun Microsystems in 2006. He also has created strong links with universities, where Sourcio sponsors the development of new curricula and training in Web Technologies. Monitis greatly benefits from these university relationships by getting access to new staff and interns. The talented students selected to work with Sourcio’ experienced IT managers together make a great team – ambitious and hard working, and which is creating a company that is different, fast and innovative.
Technical Management is providing by Mikael Vardanyan, experienced software technologist and Ph.D in communications.
