Press Release

San Jose 10 Aug, 2009 Monitis Inc., a leading provider of enterprise-class systems management software as a service, announces a cloud-based SOAP testing service.

Today, Monitis has made the first cloud-based SOAP testing service available for on-demand Web services and applications load testing. This is the latest update for Monitis’ WebLoadTester testing suite, and is specifically intended for applications of Service Oriented Architecture. The suite offers SOAP load testing with simulated heavy traffic in real time, allowing webmasters to determine how performance can be optimized. This should lead to a better integration of SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) applications and generally improved productivity. Test cycles will be shortened, and the development and delivery of complicated applications with minimal offline time will be greatly accelerated.

The term SOAP is short for Simple Object Access Protocol. It refers to the means by which structured information may be exchanged in computer networks to allow for web services to be offered. SOAP is the primary protocol for service-oriented architecture (SOA) principles that allows systems development and integration to proceed more smoothly, allowing functions to be provided as services to customers. The travel industry will see major benefits, just as one example, because any software engineer will now be able to pull services off the shelf to put together a complete suite of travel agent software. The finance industry and many others have had their development cycle similarly eased. WebLoadTester will analyze the efficiency and throughput of the delivery channel, as it operates beyond corporate firewalls.

Web-based applications in general, and Business-to-Business (B2B) applications in particular, usually have Service Level Agreements (SLAs). As an increasing number of business computer applications move onto the Web, many of them now exchange information with no interface through a Web browser. As an example, a travel agency may make a request from the airline’s Web server to determine whether a specific flight from Chicago to Dallas is available. A sample SLA might require that query to receive a response in no more than five seconds. Contractual penalties are often set if SLAs are violated. WebLoadTester helps both the service providers and users to be more confident in their applications’ availability and performance.

Performance engineers, architects, developers, DBAs, quality assurance testers, and many others have generally been required to test and improve the performance of Web-based enterprise applications. The company’s CEO, Hovhannes Avoyan believes that this task is now greatly simplified. “With SOAP testing on demand, Web developers, systems integrators, and enterprise service providers will not have to invest nearly as much time and effort in testing their software and hardware to ensure reliability” says Avoyan. Automated load testing usually requires a performance engineer to find the hardware to test, set up load agents on multiple computers, configure the load agents, run the tests, and compile the performance reports. With WebLoadTester test scenarios can be defined and executed within minutes, and the total cost of ownership of load testing tools will be significantly reduced. This service charges per the usage and hence there is no need to invest in very costly infrastructure.

Press Release

San Jose 5 Aug, 2009 Monitis Inc., a leading provider of enterprise-class systems management software as a service, released today a mobile availability and performance monitoring application called Monitis Mobile Monitoring Agent (MMMA) for Android-powered phones. This mobile monitoring agent is available free of charge, and will make it much easier and faster to find, diagnose, and resolve problems with mobile Web application availability and performance. The MMA allows the web content providers to see the levels of performance and availability that their end users will encounter.

The Mobile Agent from Monitis is autonomous software that users must download from the Android marketplace; it will come at no cost. Mobile Agent can diagnose problems with access to the Web on any mobile network or device once an IP address or URL is provided. It independently tests and monitors mobile content, applications, and services on different phone and networks worldwide, alerting users if difficulties are encountered. The user may request probes at regular intervals, and the Agent will get response times for HTTP requests to URLs that the user designates. This measurement and testing solution will allow mobile providers to compare their service to competitors’ in many different markets free of charge.

Android, initially developed by Google Inc., is a Linux-based software for mobile phones with inbuilt operating system, middleware and key applications. Till now, the only available Android phone in the US is G1, made by HTC Corp., Taiwan for T-Mobile. By the end of this year, many smart phones from Motorola Inc., Samsung Electronics Co., LG Electronics Inc. and others are expected to hit the US market.

The Monitis Mobile Agent is intended for use by infrastructure providers, wireless carriers and aggregators, and enterprise businesses. It will make it easier for these firms to establish and maintain standards of performance, to keep up with the competition. The Android agent is another instance of Monitis’ commitment to make sure its programs are easy to use and understand, provide all the features its users need, and come free or at a reasonable price. The goal is to make it easier for mobile providers to give their users the best possible experience.

“In the mobile world, establishing and maintaining the highest standards of service performance is of paramount importance in building and retaining customer loyalty,” said Hovhannes Avoyan, CEO of Monitis Inc. “Monitis Mobile Monitoring Agent delivers unmatched insight into the mobile performance issues and trends of the popular mobile data services that matter today and those that will drive revenue growth in the future.”

Economics of Multitenancy-Based Software as a Service

Posted by Hovhannes Avoyan | Posted in Articles | Posted on 06-08-2009

Monitis upfront design all its applications as multi-tenant hosted services. Multi-tenancy is a principle in program design where a single case of the program functions on a software-as-a-service (SaaS) provider’s servers, delivering its services to manifold user groups (tenants). It is different from a multi-instance design where different program instances or hardware system are installed for different user groups. With the help of a multitenant design, a software application is structured to practically separate its data and arrangement. Thus, each user group works with a tailored virtual application case.

Economics of Multi-tenancy software architecture:

1) Cost Savings. Multi-tenancy allows for cost savings over and above the basic economies of scale achievable from consolidating IT resources into a single operation.

2) Data Aggregation/Data Mining. One of the most compelling reasons for vendors/ISVs to utilize multi-tenancy is for the inherent data aggregation benefits.

3) Complexity. Because of the additional customization complexity and the need to maintain per-tenant metadata, multitenant applications require a larger development effort.

4) Community. This inter-tenant collaboration is very powerful.

5) Release Management. Multi-tenancy simplifies the release management process. In a traditional release management process, packages containing code and database changes are distributed to client desktop and/or server machines. These packages then have to be installed on each individual machine. With the multi-tenant model, the package typically only needs to be installed on a single server. This greatly simplifies the release management process. Need facts? Check how many features we were able to release during the last months!

Important note: when a vendor claims that it provides SaaS check if it is really multi-tenant!

Monitis Announces Dashboard Usability Improvements

Posted by Mikayel Vardanyan | Posted in News | Posted on 03-08-2009

Press Release

San Jose 03 August, 2009 Monitis Inc., a leading provider of enterprise-class systems management software as a service, today announces several significant performance and usability improvements for its real time web-based monitoring dashboard.

Monitis is always trying to make its systems monitoring service easier to understand and to use. Toward that end, Monitis is announcing several new features. A step-by-step program wizard will make it easier for novices to install the software, while the experienced users will find that it is now more productive. The wizard will guide users through external website, network, email, and VoIP monitoring settings. Many URLs can be added to the system and monitored at once by webmasters and administrators. In addition, multiple protocols (such as HTTP, FTP, SSH, POP3, and MySQL) can be added in one step if all are on the same server. The wizard will make the installation process easier to comprehend, and monitoring can now be set up within minutes.

Default graphical chart views have also been improved. Customers have frequently requested a continuous last 24 hour view, showing the previous 24 hours metrics instead of just the current day’s view. It will show round-the-clock performance and allow the customers to analyze performance degradation. When a customer opens the system in the morning, he can check the complete previous night’s performance. Chart refreshes have also been optimized so that the last data will be shown in real-time without any visible refreshing of the chart. Monitis will thus be more lightweight and will consume less memory while improving overall application performance, a frequently expressed customer complaint.

According to Monitis CEO Hovhannes Avoyan, the company’s largest priority is to make their web-based dashboard easier to use and make it perform better in real time. “We are running customer surveys every couple of months, and these two improvements were highlighted by our customers as top priority ones. We are committed to make the user experience as smooth as possible,” Avoyan said. Users have recently been introduced to many exciting and novel improvements and more are set to come by summer’s end.
